The Acute Response Team and district nurses came and visited
our family during the last week of mum’s life.
Each and every one of them was so knowledgeable, patient, kind
and compassionate. Their care and response times were excellent,
all my family commented on how swift and organised everything
was from the team.
Choosing to care for mum in her last few days at home felt like
the right thing to do at the time, but as her condition deteriorated
there were so many times it felt scary or so lonely and we worried
if we had made the right decision – but knowing the team was
coming in each day was so comforting and reassuring.
In addition to the excellent care, importantly, we felt
able to be ourselves and continue our lives with mum at
the heart of the home. Everyone in the team came in and
read the mood of the room each time, all striking that special
chord of knowing when to laugh with us as well as to comfort
when things felt overwhelming or frightening.
My mum was supported with dignity every step of the way and the
team helped us feel confident in supporting her through those last
days – which were so very, very hard. They helped make it easier.
