The pandemic has shown the NHS that it can work in different ways, from digital consultations to clever use of buildings to comply with social distancing.
This is true at KCHFT, where we are taking a holistic approach to how we use the space in our buildings as we move forward from the pandemic.
It may mean, for example, that in the longer term, our buildings have more break-out space so teams get together for catch-ups and wellbeing sessions, but maybe not so many desks for people to sit at working all day.
Director of Corporate Services Natalie Davies said: “It’s a complex area – we need to look at how teams are working and most importantly, take into account the needs of our patients, clients and service users and what is best for them.”
The work is also tied into our sustainability strategy, which was unveiled earlier this year and which outlines plans for community hospitals that are powered by renewable energy, with outdoor spaces supplying fruit and vegetables.
It also aims to reduce non-essential journeys and transform KCHFT buildings to create healthier spaces for patients and staff.
