If you are having oral, intranasal or intravenous sedation for dental treatment, please follow the instructions below.
Please inform us if you are unable to attend the appointment for any reason, if you feel unwell or if there are any changes to your medical history.
Please also inform the team if there is any possibility you may be pregnant before your sedation appointment.
A responsible adult (over 18) must accompany you to the appointment and stay until your treatment is complete. For up to 24 hours you will need to remain with a responsible adult who is not caring for any other dependants.
On the day of treatment:
- bring a responsible adult to accompany you. They will need to remain on site until the end of the treatment
- please do not bring any other dependants to the sedation appointment
- you will need to travel home by car, and have a responsible adult remain with you for the rest of the day, and up to 24 hours
- eat a light, non-fatty meal up to two hours before your appointment unless otherwise advised
- take your routine medication at the usual time unless otherwise advised
- do not drink alcohol or use any recreational drugs for at least 24 hours before your appointment
- wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes and flat shoes
- do not wear nail varnish or false nails.
After treatment:
- travel home with your escort by car
- rest quietly at home for the rest of the day, and for up to 24 hours with a responsible adult who is not caring for any other dependants
- although you may feel fine, the effects of sedation can last up to 24 hours and may affect reasoning, judgement, co-ordination and skill. During this time, do not:
- drive a vehicle, ride a bicycle or scooters
- operate machinery, including domestic appliances
- cook, use sharp utensils or pour hot liquids
- make any important decisions
- use internet/social media
- be responsible for children or other dependants.
