Behavioural support for your child

is able to offer one-to-one support to help you parent your child and manage behavioural difficulties.
We’ll arrange an initial 30 to 40-minute call to discuss:
- your concerns about your child’s behaviour
- what you would like to achieve
- your expectations, hopes and fears.
They might refer you to the ‘Understanding your child’ free short online courses that can help you understand your child and their behaviour. Alternatively, you’ll work with your practitioner to develop goals to help your child’s behaviour improve. Over a series of four sessions, we’ll look at
- what’s working well
- what’s not working and what could be done differently
- look at the strengths and weaknesses in different areas of your daily life
- a scenario that has been problematic in the past – what was the trigger, what happened, what helped, what made things worse
- healthy lifestyle choices – how much sleep does your child/young person get at night, do they have a healthy diet, and how much physical activity do they do?
If appropriate, we will speak to your child about their friends, school and home life, do they feel happy, are they being bullied, do they know who they can talk to at school?
At every stage you can use positive reinforcement of achievements.
You’ll create a plan to help you look at what’s been helpful for you, what you can do to continue to make positive changes, and how you might recognise if things start to slip and who to contact if you need support in the future.
At the end of your sessions, we’ll suggest taking some time to ‘map your journey’ with your child – how things were when you asked for help, how are things now, and what things might you keep in place.
