Anjaly swaps India for Eastbourne
A passion for speech and language therapy became Anjaly Varghese's pathway to taking her around the world.
Growing up in Kerala, India and the United Arab Emirates, Anjaly completed her masters in 2016 and started working in a hospital in India, but craved a career without the pressures of a hospital environment. She moved to the UK and has been working in the East Sussex Children’s Integrated Therapy Service and living in Eastbourne for the last eight months. “I find working in the community so exciting, I get to go to patient’s homes and meet their loved ones and make a real difference to their lives," she said.
Anjaly loves getting out and about, visiting nearby towns and landmarks and walking on the south downs: “I love living in Eastbourne, it’s calm and quiet and close to the seaside.”
Beach life in Brighton for Claire
After graduating in 2012 Claire Donnelly moved from Northern Ireland to the beautiful south coast of England, joining the Children’s Integrated Therapies Service in East Sussex as a speech and language therapist.
Claire loves living by the sea: “In East Sussex we have the best of both worlds – the national South Downs country park and the beach. There’s always something to do when I’m not working.”
Living an exciting life in Brighton while working her dream job, Claire loves the difference she gets to make to the lives of children in her role. “My job gives me so many opportunities, I have learned so much during the six years I have been here.”
Local girl Emma wouldn't work anywhere else
Emma Charlton has lived in East Sussex her whole life, apart from when was studying at university, and couldn’t imagine working anywhere else: “Living in Hastings and being by the seaside is great. We have a really close-knit team who look out for each other. It’s the best team of people I have worked with and we all get along so well.”
Emma knew speech and language therapy was the career for her when the Children’s Integrated Therapies Service visited her Hastings school. “I was inspired when I met the team when I was 16 and am so glad that I get to work every day doing something that I love”
After graduating, she joined the East Sussex service as a band 5 therapist. 18 years on she is still loving her job. “I love working with the children and seeing the progress that they make, it gives me such a buzz and makes my work really rewarding."
