Happy National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day
By Kevin Galvin, Director of Estates and Facilities
Wednesday, 19 June is National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day and I want to personally highlight the amazing work our colleagues do in those services here at KCHFT.
From making sure our wards are squeaky-clean to essential buildings maintenance and everything in between, the day is an opportunity for all of us to appreciate the contribution of colleagues in these essential roles.
The patient experience is at the centre of everything we do. We have more than 250 colleagues in our estates and facilities service operating across 132 locations.
Each and every colleague is an unsung hero in their own right and I could not be prouder to work alongside them.
They continually provide a class leading service and I am privileged to be able to spend time with the team and I deeply value our conversations and interactions. I learn from them every day and I strive to emulate their care and compassion in my own work.
Have you ever wondered what we do in healthcare estates and facilities?
Collectively we help with:
Repairs and maintenance, ID badges, space requests and occupation changes, space planning, door access, staff welfare and security, CCTV monitoring and maintenance, parking management, real estate matters, capital projects, fire and building alarms and maintenance, sustainability, cleaning, catering, gritting, grounds and gardens, transport, waste management and window cleaning to name a few.
With such a vast range of responsibilities, it takes a dedicated and excellent team to stay on top of it.
Happy estates and facilities day to all our colleagues working at KCHFT and across the NHS. Thank you for everything you do.

“I love my job and the team I work with. I love helping people, arranging things and completing tasks. The most rewarding part is when people say thank you and notice what I’ve done."
