Solar panels saves 729 trees' worth of CO2
KCHFT have made a significant step towards sustainability with the installation of solar panels at Dover Health Centre, following funding secured in January 2024.
In partnership with Ecolution, the system was created to meet the centre's energy needs and completed in just two weeks, on time and within budget.
The new solar panels will generate 82.03 MWh of energy annually, equivalent to driving an electric car 108 times around the Earth or powering 82 sold-out Wembley Stadium football matches. This will save 15.86 tonnes of CO2 each year, the same as planting 729 trees.
David Spence, Estates Lead Surveyor, said: “The project had its logistical challenges, but through excellent collaboration with the contractor, we completed the installation of the solar panel arrays in just over two weeks, exceeding expectations.
“The overall project including installing safety handrails on the roof area was completed in just 23 days, causing minimal disruption to the health centre's operations.
"Equipped with fire safety features and real-time performance tracking, the solar panels will deliver long-term benefits."
According to David, the solar panels will deliver a return on investment in about 12 and a half years and significantly reduce the site's utility bills.
He adds: "Given the success of this project, solar panels could be a viable option for other locations.”
