Specialist care in our community: Meet the SAS doctors

SAS doctor contracts were launched in 2021 to provide a pathway for experienced doctors who want to work in specific areas, like surgery or medicine. They are different to a consultant but still play an important role in the care we provide. Amy Heskett, an SAS doctor in Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust, explains: “Many SAS doctors are in based in community teams, providing care closer to patients' homes and needs. I feel very lucky to be with a trust that has used the new SAS doctor contracts to allow this group to develop their careers and take up leadership roles.” Here, to mark SAS Week (14 to 18 October 2024), we caught up with some KCHFT SAS doctors, to find out more.

We are #KCHFTProud of oral health champion Joanne Downs, who joined fellow advocates in London on the only charity walk in the world to support mouth cancer. Advanced Oral Health Practitioner, Joanne, took part in the 19th Mouth Cancer Charity Walk in Hyde Park to raise awareness about the early signs of the disease.
