Meet Steve Bamford who is cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats for our charity, i care, to raise vital funds for our ‘talking together’ virtual peer support groups.
Being diagnosed with any long-term health condition can be frightening and stressful but our patients told us people diagnosed with HIV often also feel isolated, stigmatised and lacking emotional support. Friends and family may want to help, but the only people who really understand what you’re going through are people who live with the same condition as you. That is why peer-to-peer support is so valuable.
Steve is a trained peer supporter, someone who helps run support groups for people living fit, active and healthy lives with HIV, run by people living with HIV. The money he raises will go towards training more peer supporters who will help others recently diagnosed, with issues around medication and mental health and wellbeing.
You can follow his epic journey and support him through his Just Giving page - justgiving.com/fundraising/steve-bamford3
