Immunisation team awarded for helping our most vulnerable communities
We are #KCHFTProud of our immunisation team’s outstanding contribution award from NHS England, for delivering a diphtheria vaccination programme to migrant people arriving in the UK.
More than 2,000 vaccinations and almost 1,000 courses of antibiotics were given during the short-term outreach service, following country-wide concerns of an increase in cases of the highly contagious infection last winter.
The programme was rolled out at speed at the Manston processing centre, as part of our commitment to addressing health inequalities among our most vulnerable communities.
KCHFT Assistant Director for Adult Long Term and Specialist Services, Emma Young said: “This was a whole team effort, pooling the knowledge, skills and experience we had gained from other successful immunisation programmes across Kent and Medway.
“The dedication and flexibility of the staff involved to mobilise at pace, providing the service in challenging conditions for the migrant community, was amazing.
“To be recognised for our efforts and success is fantastic and the award is testament to the trust’s value of putting people first; everyone has the same chance to lead a healthy life.”
The award was presented at the south east region’s emergency preparedness, resilience and response conference by Director of NHS Resilience (EPRR) Stephen Groves.
#TeamKCHFT was commended for its rapid mobilisation; making sure people had access to high-quality healthcare, supported by translated materials and interpreters.
