Helping you stay #WinterWell
We know there is a challenging winter ahead. With rising costs of living, pressures on the NHS and care services and expected high levels of flu and Covid-19, we are doing all we can to support our communities.
Following the success of last year's event in Folkestone, where we helped more than 300 people, we took our Winter Well roadshow to Dover and Margate this year, where we helped more than 600 people with advice and support.
NHS, council and community providers joined together to deliver the East Kent Health and Care Partnership events, to support people and families to stay well.
Our experts provided physical and emotional wellbeing advice for adults and children and catch-up flu immunisations for children. Kent Fire and Rescue Service and community wardens were on hand to provide safety advice and local community organisations provided cost of living support, access to healthy food and eating well this winter.
Thanks to the generosity of NHS and council colleagues hundreds of winter woollies: Coats, scarves, gloves and hats were donated for people to take who need a little extra support to stay warm this winter.
Anne Ford, Deputy Director of the East Kent Health and Care Partnership, said: “With rising costs of living, pressures on the NHS and care services and expected high levels of flu and Covid-19, we are doing all we can to support our communities to stay well this winter.
“It was fantastic meeting people and their families in Dover and Margate, to share what support is available this winter, how they can keep themselves healthy and making sure they know how to find the right care, when they need it."
In Dover, we partnered with Dover District Council and Social Enterprise Kent and were joined by MIND, Dover Big Local, Involve Kent for social prescribing and Carers' Support.
Cllr Charlotte Zosseder, Portfolio for Community and Corporate Property, Dover District Council said: “I am delighted to support the Dover Winter Well event, which provides essential services and advice to our residents who may be facing challenges during the cold season.
"We’re passionate about helping people in need and making our community a better place to live. This was a great opportunity to connect with local organisations and agencies that can offer support to those who may be struggling with their health and wellbeing this winter.”
In Margate, we helped families stay well, with a little help from Santa
Partnering with the Margate Christmas Fair, Thanet District Council and Social Enterprise Kent, it wasn't just a visit to Father Christmas on offer at the free Santa’s Grotto in Cecil Square, Margate this year.
Families visited Santa in his grotto, then made their way through our health and care event, before enjoying the wealth of entertainment and festivities on offer in the town square.
Jack Packman, event organiser and Ward Councillor for Dane Valley, said: “Our event last year was a huge success and saw us bring Christmas cheer and a sense of community to more than 1,000 people. This year we teamed up with our local NHS and community services to make sure there was even more on offer for people, to ensure they have a fun and happy Christmas.”
Age UK Thanet, Carers' Support, colleagues from housing and benefit and early years services also joined us.
Cllr Heather Keen, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods at Thanet District Council said: “We’re passionate about helping people in need and making our community a better place to live. The Winter Well event helped us to make sure that support reaches the people who need it most."
Claire Shelton, Director of Health and Wellbeing for Social Enterprise Kent, said: “We are really pleased to be supporting these Winter Well events in Thanet and Dover.
"It’s really great to be part of an event that is tapping into the expertise we all have to support our communities to be healthy this winter, whether that’s through immunisation and health advice, access to healthy food, cost of living support or reducing loneliness and isolation.”
