Become a tech savvy driver with our free training session

If you’re thinking about buying a new car, or you’ve just bought one and would like to find out how to use the technology in your vehicle, we’re here to help.

South East DriveAbility (SED), is working with Driving Mobility and the Department for Transport to provide a free, two-hour training session to the first 150 people to register – helping you to get the most from your new car.

You will learn about the levels of automation, types of driver aids and other features in newer vehicles.

We’ll provide you with advice, information and practical on-road sessions to get hands-on experience of modern drive aids and semi-autonomous features in cars.

Dr Anuraj Varshney, Head of service for South East Driveability said: “Modern cars come with a number of tools to help you stay safe and help the environment. Many motorists will be driving their first hybrid or electric vehicle off the forecourt and may not have the time or opportunity to learn how the automation features can help to improve their driving experience and prepare them for the future.

“We have 150 opportunities available for people to discover how they can use the technology to help keep them and other motorists safe on the roads.”

Your training session will be held in Aylesford, Kent and you must have a full driving licence. The session will cover:

  • Lane departure alert systems
  • Self-parking systems
  • Adapted cruise control
  • Hill start assist
  • Sat navigation
  • Object or collision avoidance system
  • Automated emergency braking
  • Lane-keep assist systems
  • Parking pilot
  • Automated lights system
  • Automated headlight dipping
  • Start, stop technology
  • Powered handbrake.
