  • drink more: Drinking more will make your saliva more watery and easier to manage. Remember ice lollies and jelly also count
  • follow the advice from your speech and language therapist about the kind of drinks that are safest for you
  • try to avoid mouth breathing, try to breathe through your nose
  • try sipping pineapple or papaya juice. These juices contain an enzyme that may help breakdown your sticky saliva
  • make sure your mouth is clean and brush your teeth, tongue and gums at least twice a day
  • some people find reducing dairy products, such as milk and cheese helpful
  • sucking citrus lozenges or chewing gum to encourage production of saliva may help. Do not do this if you have any swallowing difficulties
  • using steam inhalation may help loosen secretions.

If you are still struggling to manage your sticky saliva and dry mouth speak to your GP about medicines that may be useful.
