Deviyani Saunders felt life was getting her down and she didn’t know where to turn.
“It just felt like one thing after another. I didn’t think I had anyone to support me or understand how I felt. My health had been quite poor in pregnancy due to the diabetes and I just felt tired and poorly most of the time.
“It was tough with caring for a new baby and toddler. It was quite a dark place and I would cry over the smallest thing. Lockdown happened and the pressure just became worse.”
Deviyani, from Maidstone, reached out to her GP in April, who recommended antidepressants. Due to her diabetes, Deviyani wanted to avoid taking more tablets.
As a mum to two small children – Deago, a newborn and Kaelan, a lively toddler – she spoke to her local Health Visiting Team, which put her in touch with One You Lifestyle Advisor Lynda Kent.
She said: “Lynda saved my life in a way. She listened to me and allowed me to get all these feelings out. After a few weeks, I felt so much better.”
Lynda said: “I learned so much talking with Deviyani. I can see how difficult it must be feeling like no one is offering support, especially with family so far away. She is a fantastic mum and talented.
She should be proud of everything she has achieved. She is now feeling more positive about caring for herself, walking more and eating more healthily to support her recovery.”
One You Kent offers a free service to help you take the first steps towards a healthier lifestyle in seven one-to-one sessions. It can help clients feel motivated, overcome barriers, introduce some lifestyle changes and signpost to further support if needed. It also supports clients who want to lose weight or go smoke free.
