Parents with premature babies can receive extra support
The trust have committed to meeting the standard of the Employer with Heart Charter to support trust colleagues who have a premature baby.
This will involve:
- extending maternity leave for people who give birth prematurely (before 37 weeks gestation) by the number of days a baby was born prior to their due date, if the baby is in hospital and needs care. This will be added as compassionate leave, on full pay, at the end of the maternity leave period.
- giving partners the time they need to be with their baby in hospital, receiving at least two weeks paid compassionate leave on the birth of their premature baby. The partner can then use their parental leave entitlements when the baby comes home from hospital.
- supporting parents returning to work following the birth of a premature baby, considering formal and informal flexible working patterns and offering additional paid or unpaid leave for for example, hospital appointments, as well as making sure they are fully supported through our health and wellbeing offers such as our counselling service.
